Prediction by power flow methods of shunt and series damping in building structures

Abstract By use of power flow techniques an assessment is made of the effect of damping on the vibrational energy of concrete plates which form a T-junction. The vibrational energies are predicted from knowledge of the loss factors, coupling loss factors, and radiation loss factors which were assessed theoretically and experimentally. Theoretical predictions are compared with measurements. It is seen that a damping layer, as well as reducing the bending wave energy on the plate to which it is applied, will, to a lesser extent, reduce that on other plates which form a common junction. The magnitude of this effect is predicted and measured.
