The Design and Implementation of Criterion-referenced Assessment in a First Year Undergraduate Core Law Unit

The various procedures in the design, implementation and evaluation of criterion-referenced assessment in a first year undergraduate core law unit 'LWB143 Legal Research and Writing' at the Queensland University of Technology in 2004 are presented. The improved reliability and validity of assessment tasks that have resulted from the method are highlighted, also identifying further goals based on the extension of the criterion-referenced assessment.
