An ATM subscriber line interface circuit for voice and telephony over ATM (VTOA)

An ATM subscriber line interface circuit (ATM-SLIC) including BORSCHT functions, the cell assembly and disassembly (CLAD) function, and an interface circuit with ATM switches is proposed. It is designed for future ATM switching systems which should accommodate various interfaces, such as B-ISDN, N-ISDN, and POTS. The ATM adaptation layer type 1 processing method was evaluated, focusing on the impact of virtual channel connection changes during communication. An economical interface configuration to ATM switches that maintains the quality of voice communication is also proposed.
