In laser cladding the wear and corrosion properties of metallic surfaces are modified by the addition of hardfacing alloys. The aim of the cladding process consists in obtaining a homogeneous surface layer with a strong metallurgical bond to the substrate and only a low degree of dilution. The process usually involves the delivery of fine grained alloy powders directly into the melt pool during the laser irradiation [1,2]. This method of laser cladding is widespread and very flexible but there are still some technological problems which have to be solved. In laser cladding the wear and corrosion properties of metallic surfaces are modified by the addition of hardfacing alloys.
