Pruning urban waste use to generate electricity

From the estimated amount of pruning waste in urban Eletropaulo's Concession Area, results of R&D project "Study of Potential Use of Biomass Resulting from Pruning and Removal of Trees in the Concession Area of Eletropaulo", funded by the Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency and developed by the Brazilian Reference Center on Biomass of the Institute of Electrotechnics and Energy of the University of São Paulo, in partnership with AES Eletropaulo, the potential use of this waste to generate electricity was studied, with two technologies being analyzed: steam cycle and anaerobic digestion. The power plant was more viable than the anaerobic digestion one. It is expected that the results presented collaborate for the use of pruning urban waste to generate electricity, and stimulate the creation of public policies to encourage this practice.
