A cooperative analysis for sitting a proposed urban 345kV transmission line

This paper reports the Commonwealth Edison Company (CECo) has considered a double circuit 345 kV overhead transmission line extension from the south to provide load growth and improved reliability to Chicago's downtown loop area. A non-electric commuter rail right-of-way (ROW) is available for sharing along much of the preferred route. A cooperative analysis of the electromagnetic influences of a planned overhead EHV transmission line on an adjacent urban property is described. The steps involved in the analysis are identified, including computer modeling and validation measurements, electromagnetic susceptibility and electrical safety estimates, methods for identifying potential interference, and mitigation options where required.
