A note on hot-wire anemometer measurements of turbulence in the presence of temperature fluctuations

Since the output of a constant- temperature hot-wire anemometer is sensitive to both velocity and temperature fluctuations, turbulent heat transfer measurements may be 'contaminated' by the presence of temperature fluctuations. It is shown that this effect may be significant in the measurement of the streamwise velocity component above a heated plate but is otherwise probably negligible. A technique for the on-line measurement of Reynolds heat flux is also described.
