Key Management Standards Hit the Fast Track

As enterprises increasingly turn to encryption to meet data-security demands, they need open standards for encryption key management. Three standards bodies--the IEEE, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), and the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS)--have recently chartered working groups on key management. A high degree of consensus within and among the standards bodies might lead to the pre-standard release of products that will be viable for the long term by the end of this year.
