The implementation of pulse wave signal generator based on Piecewise Gaussian-Cosine Fitting

Pulse wave reflects vital information related to condition of cardiovascular system. In recent years, pulse wave is widely studied. To conduct these researches successfully, acquiring pulse wave accurately is significant. However, at the developing stage of the equipment for acquiring pulse wave, it is usually not convenient to get specific signal to debug and evaluate the developing system. Aiming to produce test signal which reflects specific physiological condition for the developing pulse wave detection equipment, this paper designs a pulse wave signal generator which can produce different types of pulse waves according to the feature points set by users based on FPGA device. Sometimes noise is also needed when testing the performance of the filter designed. Therefore, the function for adding different types of noises is integrated into this system. LCD and touch screen are selected to constitute the user interface. The whole process is conducted in SOPC developing flow. Aiming to restore a single-period pulse wave from its feature points, a method named Piecewise Gaussian-Cosine Fitting is proposed in this paper. This pulse wave signal generator can be defined as a special signal generator with simple structure and small size which provides flexible solutions for many researching cases.
