Resonating-group study of p +. cap alpha. scattering from 68 to 125 MeV

The resonating-group method, together with a phenomenological consideration of reaction effects, is used to analyze p + ..cap alpha.. scattering data at the relatively high c.m. energies of 68, 80, and 124.8 MeV. The nucleon-nucleon potential employed contains a weakly repulsive core and yields a reasonably satisfactory description of not only the two-nucleon scattering data but also the essential properties of the ..cap alpha.. particle. The result shows that satisfactory agreement with experiment can be obtained. In particular, it is found that, because of the use of a totally antisymmetric wave function, the scattering behavior at large angles is adequately described.
