A multi-walled carbon nanotube/palladium nanocomposite prepared by a facile method for the detection of methane at room temperature

Abstract A composite of palladium and multi-walled carbon nanotubes was prepared by a simple method of reducing their aqueous mixtures with NaBH 4 . The morphology of the composite was investigated by transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The electrical responses of the composite to methane were measured at room temperature. It exhibited a response magnitude of ∼4.5% towards 2% methane at room temperature. In addition, the responses were highly reversible and reproducible, suggesting its potential as a candidate for the room temperature detection of methane.
