Study of ANSYS modelling on the combination of 3D entity unit and plate-shell unit

Structures constituted of 3D continuous body and thin-walled plate-shell may be frequently encountered in practice, the rational scheme of carrying out finite element analysis on these structures was to let it be separately dispersed as 3D entity unit and plate-shell unit for carrying out the calculation.Even though there exists common node at the juncture of these two kinds of units, but there exists problems of discontinuity in the turning degree of freedoms due to the difference of node degree of freedoms, and leads to a big deviation between the calculated result and the practice. The constraint equation method in ANSYS and MPC method could both realize correct junction of 3D entity unit with plate-shell unit.Their principles and steps were explained respectively in this paper, and a synthetical comparison was carried out on these two kinds of methods by combining with the result of computation of a calculation example.A conclusion has been obtained that the constraint equation method can be substituted by the MPC method in the combination modelling of 3D entity unit with the plate-shell unit.
