국내 철도산업의 이산화탄소 배출 실태

Since Kyoto protocol has become effective in 2005, the emission of CO₂ has been a main environmental issue. It is released about 20 % of CO₂ from transportation in total. Until now, railway has been known as an environmental-friendly transportation. However, substantial CO₂ is exhausted because diesel oil and electricity are consumed as energy sources. In this study, the emission of CO₂ was investigated in Korean railway. In 2004, total CO₂ emission from rolling stocks was about 1.44 million ton, which increased 3 % annually in comparison with 1990. In the future, it will be necessary to enhance energy efficiency and to save energy sources for the reduction of CO₂.
