Modeling and removal of ground roll from horizontal component of C-waves.

Summary Ground roll suppression is often a challenge in conventional 3- D P -wave acquisition, but becomes even more difficult in 3-D converted waves (C-waves) acquisition. In addition to using single sensors arrays, converted wave frequencies and moveout are much closer than P-waves to those of the low frequency low velocity ground roll. Modeling the ground roll and then subtracting it from the data leads to the best preservation of C-waves signal. While conventional ground roll removal techniques are unable to remove the coherent noise without altering the amplitude of the reflectors on the horizontal components of C -waves. Model driven filter enhances the imaging of the deep reflectors without altering their amplitudes, therefore facilitating velocity analysis and improving the stacked results. The impact of low velocities is two fold: less leverage moveout and shifting of reflectors into the noise
