32 – File Management

This chapter provides an overview of file management. The Main group contains important application programs which allow the user access to the file system, to setup a different environment, to setup different computer hardware, gain access to DOS, etc. It contains Control Panel, Print Manager, File Manager, etc. Control Panel sets up the Windows environment and can be used to change the colors of the windows, the fonts used, etc. The Print Manager program checks the status of files which have been printed. File Manager allows access to the file system and can be used to copy or move files from one directory to another or from one disk drive to another. The MS-DOS Prompt program gives a DOS window. The file manager is identified by the filing cabinet icon. It is opened by double clicking the cabinet icon. Files and directories are displayed with their file name and an icon which indicates the file type. It employs a select, drag and put technique where a file (or directory), once selected, can be dragged into another directory or onto any disk drive.
