A method for controlling three-phase-laminated-core variable inductor applied to reactive power compensator by voltage reversible chopper

Variable inductors are able to control effective inductance of secondary ac windings by dc excitation from primary windings. Hence, the variable inductors can be applied as a reactive power compensator in electric power systems. In previous paper, a novel three-phase-laminated-core variable inductor has been proposed. It has three-phase secondary ac windings together in one laminated-core to reduce the size and weight in comparison with the other single-phase ones. This paper presents a MATLAB-based dynamic analysis model of the three-phase-laminated-core variable inductor, and examines the performance of the variable inductor as a reactive power compensator by using the proposed MATLAB model.
