A novel determinant based transmit antenna selection technique in single user MIMO systems

Transmit antenna selection problem is addressed. Antenna selection is a technique that can be used to minimize the cost of Radio Frequency (RF) chains or to adapt of the varying nature of the channel rendering some spatial paths more significance for transmission than the others. In this paper a suboptimal greedy selection technique is proposed. The greedy selection criterion is based on maximizing the determinant of the selected sub-channel matrix. Numerical simulations show that the proposed selection algorithm approaches the performance of the optimal exhaustive search method, yet with a decreased computational burden on the user side.
