Industrial-scale bubble column reactors: gas–liquid flow and chemical reaction

The aim of the types of studies presented in this paper is to investigate and finally predict the combined effects of chemical conversion and transport of mass, heat and momentum in order to design and optimize production reactors. In this paper we report on the results of a collaboration between a company with experience in industrial production systems and a university group with experience in numerical simulation and special measurement techniques. For confidentiality reasons, this paper does not contain quantitative information about the reaction system. Nevertheless, the results give a clear picture about the power of computational fluid dynamics today.
