Static Wind Loads on Towers of Frame Work Structure

A study was made to estimate static wind forces acting on a rectangular tower of frame work construction. The results are so arranged as to be used conveniently for design purpose.Drag coefficient based on the area of contour, S_??_, in case of normal wind is given in Fig. 11 for several kinds of member sections. Drag-, side force-, and resultant force- coefficients for oblique wind conditions are shown in Fig. 12 a through e.Some comments are also made for measuring two dimensional drag coefficients of bluff bodies in an open jet wind tunnel. End plate dimensions necessary to obtain effectively two-dimensional flow are proposed in Fig. 6.
