Generation of building and housing waste constitutes a major impact on the environment. Many studies have been directed towards reducing waste in various development processes. However, professionals are rather conservative and lack the motivation to develop new technology for waste minimisation. To provide a better understanding of the present scenario and motivation for future development, for both the housing sector and the residents, this article investigates the existing waste management and recycling situations, examines the existing waste problems, and reviews seven building and housing waste recycling technologies, including (1) brick, (2) concrete, (3) ferrous metal, (4) glass, (5) masonry, (6) nonferrous metal, and (7) plastic.
