LATE JURASSIC BRACHYCERA FROM NORTHEASTERN CHINA (INSECTA: DIPTERA)

This work deals with the Upper Jurassic Brachycera from Western Liaoning. 6 families, including a new family, 10 new genera and 15 new species are described and figured: Palaepangonius eupterus gen. et sp. nov., Eopangonius pletus gen. et sp. nov., Allomyia ruderalis gen. et sp. nov. (all belonging to Tabanidae); Orsobrachyceron chinensis gen. et sp. nov., Oiobrachyceron limnogenus gen. et sp. nov., Pauromyia oresbia gen. et sp. nov. (all belonging to Rhagionidae); Protonemestrius jurassicus sp. nov., P. beipiaoensis sp. nov., Florinemestrius pulcherrimus gen. et sp. nov. (all belonging to Nemestrinidae); Protapiocera megista gen. et sp. nov., Protapiocera ischyra gen. et sp. nov. (both belonging to Protapioceridae fam. nov.); Lepteremochaetus lithoecius gen. et sp. nov. (belonging to Eremochaetidae); Protempis minuta sp. nov., Helempis yixianensis gen. et . sp. nov., H. eucalla gen. et sp. nov. (all belonging to Protempidae). As Protapiocera is conspicuously different from all extinct and extant Brachycera, it is placed in a new family Protapioceridae. Palaepangonius is the oldest fossil in the subfamily Pangoninae. Protapiocera is the first apiocerids like fossil record. All the specimens described here were collected from the Yixian Formation of Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, China.
