Effects of blended starch adhesive contents and particle sizes of tamarind hulls on properties of particleboard.

Effects of blended starch adhesive contents (20, 25 and 30g/100 ml) and particle sizes (7, 12 and 20 mesh) on mechanical properties (modulus of rupture) and physical properties (density, water absorption and thickness swelling) of particleboard from tamarind hull were investigated. Tamarind hull particle and adhesive was mixed and compressed at 160 ◌ํC and 1,500 psi for 8 minutes. As adhesive contents in particle board increased, density and modulus of rupture of particleboard increased, but water absorption and thickness swelling of particleboard decreased. Modulus of rupture, density water absorption and thickness swelling of particleboard from tamarind hull increased as decreasing the particle size. In this study, the particle size of 20 mesh at 30g/100 ml adhesive provided the best particle board properties.
