A Design that Meets User's Goals Creates Usable Security1

Poor usability of security-related software has received attention lately. Some have claimed that usability and security are inherently incompatible, others that security is such a demanding field that a new area of usability, usability of security is required. We beg to differ. Based on our analysis of existing work, we suggest that the key missing point also in the field of secure software is focus on user’s goals when designing systems.
