The invention discloses a method and a system for automatically acquiring a contact head image. The method comprises the following steps of: acquiring contact information of a contact; connecting the contact information to one or more social contact platforms, searching users in accordance with the contact information of the contact in the users of the social contact platforms respectively, and extracting the head images of the users stored in the social contact platforms; and if one or more head images are successfully acquired, selecting one of the head images as an icon in an address book. According to the method and the system for automatically acquiring the contact head image, name card identification software is automatically connected to the preset one or more social contact websites after identifying the character information extracting name card images, and big head images of name card masters stored in the social contact websites are acquired by searching the information comprising names of the name card masters on the social contact websites. The method provides convenience for acquiring the big head images of the name card masters as icons in the address book when the name card information is stored in the address book.
