An experimental task u nderstanding robotics system is reported that can simulate real assembly o perations in an imaginary t hree dimensional geometric space. The system is given as input a set of sentences from an instruction manual e lucidating mechanical assembly operations. We can consider that these sentences gives a set of subgoals that m ust be attained among mechanical parts to be assembled. The system m ust solved them and translate t hem i nto more complete command sequences by referring to three dimensional g eometric models of mechanical parts and figures attached to these sentences. Ambiguity of natural l anguage and the assumption that readers have common sense knowledge on ssembling o perations mzike it difficult for the system to get correct secuence of operations.
