AXIAL BEHAVIOR OF REINFORCED CONCRETE COLUMNS RETROFIT WITH FRPC JACKETS

The use of fiber reinforced polymer composite (FRPC) jackets to retrofit or rehabilitate reinforced concrete columns is presented. The axial stress-strain behavior of passively confined concrete is presented focussing on parameters affecting the design of FRPC jackets. An extensive experimental investigation involving FRPC material testing and monotonic axial load tests of small-scale plain concrete cylinders and prisms with FRPC jackets, and full-scale reinforced concrete columns with FRPC jackets is presented. The results of these tests indicate the importance of jacket stiffness in providing the confinement necessary to realize an increase in axial force and deformation capacity of reinforced concrete columns.
