The purposes of this study are (1) to analyse, through a survey of 204 English teachers, the actual state of 'Teaching English through English (TEE)' at primary and secondary schools in Korea, and to suggest schemes for its improvement. Effort has been exerted to develop students' English communicative ability in the school context, especially in the implementation of the TEE policies at schools. In preceding studies, there have been many positive findings regarding the affective and cognitive effects of TEE. But, there are so many limitations for the TEE policies such as class size and teachers' language abilities. The survey shows that English teachers use the English language at a rate of 5 to 2.62 (52%) in their classes. In order to encourage TEE in English classes, the following is suggested: (1) offering effective in-service training and intensive education at teacher's college; (2) providing administrative support by developing TEE materials and supplying sufficient teaching aids; (3) further studying practical teaching methods of TEE.
