Seamless IP service provision: techno-economic study by the MIND and TONIC projects

The MIND and TONIC projects, both members of the IST cluster on “Systems beyond 3G”, have set up a cooperation targeting the techo-economic evaluation of the seamless IP service provision. The results presented in this paper address the deployment of UMTS in conjunction with Wireless LAN technologies. This combination caters for a wide area coverage through UMTS and allows the delivery of broadband services hot spot areas via Wireless LANs. This paper clearly demonstrates the financial advantages of such an approach to broadband roll out.
