Condition based maintenance systems (CBM) attract great attention in the recent years as a research field that aims identifying failures and left life and performing the maintenance planning in the best possible way. Health condition of the existing system is identified in a real time basis thanks to sensors placed on critical systems (grids, production systems, plane engine, plane wing, bridges, etc.) in CBM. Useful life left is identified based on this health information and the maintenance planning is done. Increasing disposability and decreasing maintenance costs in smart grids depends on using CBM systems effectively on grid equipment. In this study, CBM applications on grid equipment is evaluated and potential equipment for CBM application and their opportunities and challenges will be discussed.
