Simultaneous combustion synthesis and consolidation of intermetallics-MoSi 2

A novel technique has been developed for simultaneous combustion synthesis and consolidation of intermetallics in a single step, from elemental powders. The method has been applied for the synthesis and consolidation of MoSi{sub 2}. Temperature profile of the combusted compact provides the temperature-time regime for consolidation. The products were characterized for density, phase formation and microstructure. {copyright}{ital 1996 Materials Research Society.}
