EXTENSION OF BRIDGE WIM SYSTEMS TO SLAB BRIDGES

This paper describes ongoing research in Bridge WIM being carried out as part of the EU Fourth framework project 'WAVE'. Results obtained on slab bridges, which were believed to be less appropriate for bridge WIM, are examined and compared to those from 'ideal' bridges, composed of beams. To enable the analysis, a completely new bridge WIM system has been developed which can deal with most of the difficulties identified during the WAVE activities. The preliminary results indicate that slab bridges do not have any major disadvantages compared to the beam bridges. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102667.
