MQAM Schemes with Unequal Error Protection and Its Application in Terrestrial Broadcasting of Digital TV

QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and 64QAM schems with unequal error protection(UEP) that are designed using trellis coded modulation (TCM) are proposed in this paper.Compared to conventional uniformly spaced MQAM,the important data can obtain 9 54~11 46 dB of asympotic coding gain,with negligible advantage for the less important data.Multiresolution broadcasting techique is adopted by European terrestrial digital TV standard.UEP 16QAM and UEP 64QAM for application in terrestrial broadcasting system of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) digital TV are also investigated in this paper.
