Compact printable chipless RFID tags using polarization diversity

Two novel compact design concepts of fully printable slot-loaded chip less RFID tags are presented. The tag consists of horizontally and vertically polarized `I' shaped slot resonators. It doubles the encoding capacity of the frequency domain based tags within a fixed bandwidth. It can be also used as an orientation independent linearly polarized tag at the half data capacity of the dual polarized setup. The dual polarized tag can be measured by chipless RFID tag reader with dual polarized antennas and dual polarized signal processing. These tags are single-sided and have higher data density compared to the existing printable chipless tags and can be used in banknotes, ID cards, and also can be directly printed on the packets for item level tagging.
