The Structure of the Visual Field

The “visual world” is our awareness of the physical world through optical means (eyes open). It is a three-dimensional construct that extends beyond our backs. It is invariant against head and movements. We observe “things” and “relations” that are coloured through experience (e.g. causal relationships) and other modalities such as touch (e.g. fur looks “warm” and “soft”). We measure distances in terms of motor programs (e.g. “ten paces”, “graspable”, etc.).
