A drug information system on a microcomputer

Abstract A microcomputer based drug information system was developed using a database management system for processing information concerning prescription drugs. The system was designed primarily for retrieving the names of all the drugs that could possibly be prescribed for a particular illness and for obtaining a drug profile on any given drug. A notebook feature was also incorporated in the system for entering and retrieving notes about each drug. This paper gives an outline of a simplified design for the drug information system. Based on this outline, the system could effectively be developed and implemented on a microcomputer such as the IBM PS 2 using a database management system like dBASE III or dBASE IV.
