Measurements on the heating in collisionless low-β transverse shock waves near the critical alfven-mach number

Collisionless stationary low-beta shock waves are produced in the range of alfven-mach number ma between 3.1 and 4.25. Magnetic probe and thomson scattering measurements indicate anomalous electron heating at low ma and the onset of anomalous ion heating at high ma: the transition occurs between ma=3.1 and ma=3.3. No extended 'foot' is observed: the magnetic field and temperature transitions remain sharp up to ma=4.25.
