INTOR radiation shielding for personnel access

Since penetration shield significantly affects reactor cost, personnel access, and reactor availability, elaborate three-dimensional radiation calculations for the whole reactor system, including the neutral beams, divertor system, toroidal field coils, and reactor building liner, were carried out. The general-purpose Monte Carlo code MCNP was used for the calculations with a continuous energy representation for the nuclear cross section from ENDF/B-IV. The INTOR reactor shield system consists of the blanket, bulk shield, penetration shield, component shield, and biological shield. The bulk shield consists of two parts: (a) the inboard shield; and (b) the outboard shield.
