On Seeger's music logic

Abstract Recently, Otto Laske has recommended Charles Seeger's ideas for a music logic as being particularly significant for the purpose of establishing a theoretical base for research in Artificial Intelligence and Music. In this paper, we consider Seeger's essay, “On the Moods of a Music Logic”, and attempt to sketch the ideas it contains in a computational context. In order to do so, we propose a minimal set of criteria for music logics and a general method for their construction, inspired by the work of Per Martin‐Lof.
