HEV bus has own characteristic to stop the engine to prevent loss of available energy when stopped at red lights. Because of this, electric steering oil pump system is required to keep the performance designed and protect the steering system in the event of abrupt drive of engine. The electric motor enables the oil pump to provide constant oil flow to power steering system. The main objective of this paper is to investigate the performance characteristics of vane type steering oil pump for HEV bus according to variable geometries and operating conditions of the vane type pump by use of CFD. The numerical analysis demonstrates that the discharge flow rate and the torque increased 15.1% and 17.2 %, while the theoretical oil flow rate is raised from 12㏄/rev to 14㏄/rev(16.7% increase) at design point.
