Abstract The paper describes by a simulation example how misleading is one of the traditional measures of manufacturing performance: the manufacturing cycle efficiency (MCE). Instead of MCE a different measure. Value Added Efficiency (VAE) is proposed, which — as shown in another example — provides a more realistic result.
