Design of Array Antenna for Body Area Network

In this paper, we present an array of 5-element antenna on a FR4-epoxy substrate. The antenna has small and thin profile and exhibits an impedance bandwidth of almost 1 GHz and a return loss of −31 dB centred around 3.6 GHz, and a gain of 3.85 dB. Each element is a square patch with a circular slot (Φ = 4 mm). The antenna is suitable for wearable devices and can find applications in body area network. With a gain of 3.85 dB, the antenna can also be used for off-body communication scenarios. The simplicity of design makes the antenna a convenient case for manufacturing and integration.
