Poster abstract: A low latency and high scalability network with extreme QoS assurance

New Internet applications such as online virtual reality (VR), tactile network, etc., have raised strict requirements for network throughput and latency. However, to achieve the two goals usually costs much control message exchange and faces the scalability problem. In this paper, we propose a light weight and scalable method, named as Deterministic IP (DIP) to provide guaranteed network service for VR and similar applications. In DIP, a set of virtual pipes are built between two end systems after connection setup request, and the quality of service (QOS) is guaranteed by in-band resource reservation with much lower latency. Besides, DIP utilizes a new dynamic routing table to reduce the growing storage and processing overhead caused by large FIB, which can largely increase the network performance. We developed a prototype of DIP and applied the system on an experimental network. The evaluation result shows superior low latency performance and excellent scalability, which implies a favorable application foreground of DIP.
