Reliability analysis of bipole HVDC transmission system installed by a tapping station

Generally electric power/energy can be transmitted through either by HVAC or HVDC. Compared to HVAC, HVDC system has number of advantages. The reliability of HVDC system depending upon the reliability of each component in it. When the load demand exceeds the generating capacity, a small generating station or tapping station is installed on the line to meet the load demand. But the demand varies with respect to the load. In such a case tapping station capacity will affect the reliability indices of the system. In this paper the effect of tapping station capacity on reliability indices is discussed and optimal capacity level of tapping station is identified.
