GeoComputation and Spatial Modelling for Decision-Making

The extent to which computational modelling has influenced and been a part of decision-making in geography. Over the past decade, GeoComputing as the primary visualization tool has matured into a tool that a wider range of users can increasingly use. With the ever-increasing availability of spatial data, there has been a growing demand for translation into usable information which supports many aspects of spatial decision-making. The ability of GeoComputation-based decision-making to manage vast data sets and integrate satellite images improves the feasibility of researching disease transmission determinants and promptly provides data for monitoring and policy formulation. This chapter offers an overview of some of the methods used, as well as two examples of online GeoComputational mapping tools that support spatial mapping and modelling in the control strategy for epidemiology.
