A Model for Common Management Education for Engineers

It has been well recognised that engineering education should provide significant and integrated content of broad management skills. This is essential for the effective performance of engineers and must include the knowledge and skills in communication, understanding the human side of technology, and the management of people and resources. The institution's policy is to integrate management education in undergraduate curriculum. The management content in engineering curriculum is also seen as an effective and efficient means of providing the breadth and wider perspectives to its graduates. A model of common management education for all specialisations in engineering constituting six major units and accounting for about eight per cent of the curriculum is proposed.
