Design of IIR filters in the complex domain

The IIR filter design problem in the complex domain is formulated such that the existence of a best approximation is guaranteed. A modified Ellacott-Williams algorithm is proposed to solve the design problem. The proposed algorithm uses a complex linear approximation employed for FIR filter design and it usually converges in several iterations. Design examples are given.
