Improvement of the efficiency of MISO configuration in inductive power transmission in case of coils misalignment

A major technical challenge for wireless power transmission via inductive link is to realize efficient and reliable energy transmission taking into account influencing effects such as the misalignment between the sending and the receiving coils. In this paper, we explore potential solutions to overcome this challenge by adopting a Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) coil system able to orientate the magnetic field to a specific location. For the orientation of the magnetic field, we propose to power the neighbor coils of the active ones in the opposite direction. Both analytical models and finite element models of Single Input Single output (SISO) and MISO configurations were developed. The investigations show that MISO orientated system has a better performance to transfer power over a bigger distance and achieve high efficiency in case of lateral misalignment between the sending and the receiving coils.
