A quantum-limited optically-matched communication link

We propose and demonstrate a nearly optimum all-optically matched communication link with unsurpassed receiver sensitivities better than 0.5 dB from quantum-limited performance at 5 Gbps using an approach that can be extended to higher data rates. We have demonstrated record optical communication performance, less than 0.5 dB from quantum limited theory for optically preamplified OOK.
