Photonic microwave multi-band frequency conversion scheme based on dual-OFCs for satellite communication

A flexible and efficient frequency conversion method based on optical frequency comb (OFC) for satellite repeater applications is proposed. A dual-driven Mach-Zehnder modulator (DMZM) is driven by the received RF signal to perform SSB modulation. Two dual-parallel MZMs (DPMZMs) are used to generate two coherent OFCs. The key principle is to mix dual coherent OFCs that with different central frequencies. In the simulation, an input Ku band frequency of 15 GHz is successfully converted to 3 GHz, 7 GHz, 11GHz, 19 GHz, 23 GHz, 27 GHz, etc. in separate channels. The signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the multi-band LOs are between 28.83dB and 29.99dB.
