Seven Principles for Sustainable Concrete Pavements

Sustainability is simply good engineering; optimizing resources, balancing competing interests, and making incremental improvements as knowledge improves. This article will describes how concrete pavement sustainability can be accomplished by following the principles listed in the article. Each principle should be applied in terms of its interdependency with, and/or potential competition with, the other principles by using already available practical tools. However, there are still areas in pavement sustainability that need to be addressed or improved, including life-cycle systems to analyze economic, environmental, and social factors, and sustainable pavement rating systems
